Electrostatic Separator
Product Description
The electrostatic separator splits materials using differences in electrical conductivity within the feed. On an earthed roll it separates conductors (copper, aluminium) from insulators (plastics), and in mineral processing it separates specific minerals.
For material with a narrow size range (for example granulated cable scrap below 2 mm) it can achieve separation on its own. In mineral processing, for example separating zircon from silica sand, it is an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical methods such as froth flotation.
How It Works
Material is fed onto an earthed roll rotating under a high-voltage electrode. The particles become charged; conductive particles quickly lose their charge to the roll and leave it, while non-conductive particles keep their charge, cling to the roll and are released at a separate point. Feed conductivity, moisture and particle size determine efficiency.
Applications
